As I have heard and read of many times before: A pilgrimage can change you - whether this is true for me, time will tell.

Meanwhile, I tend to have a different view on some things; other things turn out to have a different meaning than before the pilgrimage. I am somewhat overwhelmed by the… Continue

Walking Pilgrimage to Korean Temples

Hendrick Hamel wrote this in 1668 when he was stranded in Corea (Korea):
The Religious Men offer Perfumes before an Idol twice a Day, and on Festivals; all the Religious of a House make a Noise with Drums, Basons and Kettles. The Monasteries and Temples, which the Kingdom swarms with, are for the most part on the Mountains, each under the liberty of some Town. There are Monasteries of 5 or 600 Religious Men, and at least 4,000 of them within the Liberties of some Towns. They are divide

Hi Gerlinde. How are you and your sangha? I hope that the calligraphy workshop goes well. It is rare to have a monk living in the west doing calligraphy. The abbot of a temple in upstate New York, Hae Song Su Nim recently had an exhibition in New Jersey. Son I can start making kyol che plans again.

Hello Gerlinde, how was your trip? I completed kyolche at Musangsa and am right now in India with my parents. Should be back to Korea soon, first need to go through some administrative stuff. Are you back to Oberpfalz?

Hi! nice to hear from you! how's everything going? yes, i'm on facebook but i hardly ever go onto it -- seems that it's like all those other ploys, another way to try and steal your time by adding all those additional features. anyway, i guess we can keep in touch there, too, since they send notices. What are you doing for practice nowadays, and how is the center going? Palms together, Brian

Hi again! yes, i did that painting about 10 years ago for a Korean temple, Munsusa, which came to my hometown near Boston, U.S.A. That's where the painting is now. I put one in each book since the chanting section mentions having an image of Kwanseum Bosal for chanting, but of course most people dont have one. Namu Kwansaeum Bosal! Palms together, Brian (altho it's not updated, you can check my painting website at www.bbbudart.com if you like).
