Daily Thought; Like all thouhts sometimes helpful, sometimes not so much.

Thought for Thu, 09 Jul 2009

By means of meditation we can teach our minds to be calm and balanced; within this calmness is a richness and a potential, an inner knowledge which can render our lives boundlessly satisfying and meaningful. While the mind may be what traps us in unhealthy patterns of stress and imbalance, it is also the mind which can free us. Through meditation, we can tap the healing qualities of mind. - Tarthang Tulku...

Dharma in Korea

Seoul Dharma Group is for Buddhists, people interested in Buddhism or anyone who is simply curious, where people with some connection with Korea can get and share information. There are links to Internet talks and reading material. Anybody may write in the Forum on any topic, but preferably related to Dharma in some way.
If you are an organization please create a group. You need to do this because, just as a member people will not see your information easily. Here are a few tips.

New Booklet (free Dharma Gift)

Greetings and peace in the Dharma! I've translated and just published a Dharma Gift booklet, "Everyday Korean Buddhist Practices." It's a 64-page abridged translation of a much longer book in Korean (Saenghwalsoge Gidobop) by the late Zen Master Ilta, and it's mainly about lay methods for chanting, prostrations and why we prostrate, and spirit guiding practices. If you'd like a free copy, drop me a note at bbbudart@gmail.com, and please be patient, particularly if you live overseas. sorry…

Zen Stories

Right & Wrong

When Bankei held his seclusion-weeks of meditation, pupils from many parts of Japan came to attend. During one of these gatherings a pupil was caught stealing. The matter was reported to Bankei with the request that the culprit be expelled. Bankei ignored the case. Later the pupil was caught in a similar act, and again Bankei disregarded the matter. This angered the other pupils, who drew up a petition asking for the dismissal of the thief, stating that otherwise they would leave in a body. When Bankei had read the petition he called everyone before him. "You are wise brothers," he told them. "You know what is right and what is not right. You may go somewhere else to study if you wish, but this poor brother does not even know right from wrong. Who will teach him if I do not? I am going to keep him here even if all the rest of you leave." A torrent of tears cleansed the face of the brother who had stolen. All desire to steal had vanished.
